BIO
Steve has worked as a freelance editor for over thirty years. Back in 1990, he was one of the first editors in New York to ever edit films on a computer, using an EMC system. The EMC, which stood for Editing Machines Corporation, was a break through development, but it lost out to the Avid Media Composer. Steve then switched to Avid, which became the industry standard for editing work. In 2002, he jumped at the opportunity to work with and teach Apple’s Final Cut Pro. When Apple dropped a lot of professional editing functions in 2012 with the intro of Final Cut Pro X, he started to work extensively on Adobe Premiere as well as still using Avid Media Composer.
His credits include editing over 100 hours of programs for both television networks and independent producers, as well as many corporate videos. His past assignments have included stories for Sunday Morning on CBS, the weekly show Dan Rather Reports, many corporate videos for Bloomberg LLP, segments and shows for National Geographic, James Baldwin: The Price of the Ticket, a 90-minute film edited without narration that won over 100 awards at film festivals around the world, and documentaries for the late, trailblazing film maker Bill Miles.
He is also often asked to produce on series that he was originally hired to edit on. His producing credits have included multi camera shows for Dan Rather Reports, Surviving West Point for the National Geographic Channel, Really Wild Animals for National Geographic Television, and a variety of segments for a sports theme park.
As well as being quick to handle any creative challenges, Steve is also thoroughly versed in all technical aspects of post-production. He’s proficient at setting up and trouble shooting work flow solutions from shooting to editing to finishing.
Steve has also taught for the last five years in the Entertainment Technology Department at the New York City College of Technology (City Tech) and in the Digital Media Department at Bronx Community College. At City Tech, he has revamped the department’s introductory video class, as well as convert it to an online class. He also co-developed a weekly streaming news show that is produced remotely for the department’s television studio class. And at BCC, he teaches an advanced class in Avid Media Composer, both in person and online. Through these assignments, he’s developed an expertise and understanding of how video can be integrated into our new world of working and teaching remotely.
